EU Framework 6- Healthy Aims - Key Facts

| Overall objectives: |
- Develop a range of medical implants and diagnostic equipment to help the ageing population and those with disabilities. It has been estimated that around 50% of the western population, some 500 million people, are affected by at least one of the health problems targeted in this project.

| Our objectives: |
- Design, develop, test, trial and approve a novel implantable upper limb muscle stimulator
- Manage the Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) work package
|
| Our achievements: |
- Succesfully trialled the STIMuGRIP ® system - restores control of the wrist and hand grasp action to the user following spinal cord injury, a stroke, the onset of MS or other neurological injury.
- Developed:
- implantable epimysial electrode
- implantable inductively coupled receiver (stimulator)
- epimysial surgical probe
- surgical stimulator
- wireless charger
- Managed the Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) work package - presentations, progress reports, financial reports.
- Managed ethical approval applications and clinical trial applications for entire project.

- 26 partners, including 6 SME's, across 9 EU countries.
- Funded under the IST Microsystem programme.
- €26 million project fund.
